Well, as the end of October--and Halloween approaches--most Fall Soccer teams are heading into the "Play-Off Zone". High School teams are heading into District play offs, and College teams are beginning Conference play headed toward the end of the month and early November conference tournaments.
About this time of year, I always get calls from Coaches asking, "EV, what should I do to get my GK 'sharp' for the Play-Offs?"
I always tell these Coaches the same thing. "Buy your GKs a new pair of gloves." Pretty simple, right?
Think about it. Your GKs have been playing for most of a season. They're as sharp as they're going to be. But you show them a little 'Love' by buying them a new pair of gloves? Voila! You could not make a better investment. You hand them the gloves, and tell them, "These are for Play-Offs. We're counting on you."
Pretty good coaching, huh? And you know what? It works!
May the ground beneath your dive be soft. May your goalposts be 3 feet wide. And, in the Play-Offs, may the other team shoot everything right at you.
