Winning a Championship is always great! Some say that a National Championship is the pinnacle of achievement. Some say a League Championship is tops. Obviously there are a lot who say the World Championship is best. Me? I think a State Championship is the greatest. How can that be? Well, I will give you my answer, but first, listen to Liz DeMarse's reasons.....
Go to the Podcast The 6yd Box and listen to Episode #83. That is Liz' recounting of winning the Kentucky High School Girls Soccer State Championship. Liz, whose father, Ron DeMarse is creator, producer and host of the very popular GK Podcast 'The 6ydBox' shared her story and insights on the Lady Gators' Play-Off run by being interviewed by her Dad, Ron, on Episode 83. Now, I have heard many GK interviews and Podcasts, I've been interviewed several times regarding GKing; but I must tell you....Episode 83 was the BEST Goalkeeper interview that I've ever heard. Hands down.
Liz and Ron share the Play-Off run of her Greenwood Lady Gators High School team this Fall, culminating in a 1-0 State Championship victory. During the interview Liz shares her GK history throughout Youth soccer, Club soccer, and her path to the Kentucky High School Final. Along the way, the listener hears what I believe to be the true essence of playing Goalkeeper--you play because you Love It! Liz is obviously very aware and intelligent and appreciative of everything that led up to her Senior year victory. Throughout the interview she shares her love for her teammates, her GK Coach (Coach Kenny) and her Dad. It is truly heart-warming. Please give the podcast a listen. It'll make your day.
You can hear Liz' great story, as well as all of Ron's superb GK discussions and podcasts wherever you get your podcasts, or go to www.6ydbox.com Many thanks to Ron DeMarse and daughter Liz for what I think is The. Best. GK. Podcast. EVER! Ron, Liz, Thank You for doing that!
And along the lines of thanking people, I would be remiss if I didn't take this opportunity to thank Adriana Elvira who is moving on from Reusch USA today after 23 years at the company. Any of you who have ever called in to Reusch USA have no doubt spoken with Adriana. She was the epitome of customer service, always had a great attitude for her job, and was a happy voice on the other end of the line. We will miss her, for sure, but wish her nothing but the best in her next chapter. No doubt, she will be a tremendous success! Thanks, A!
Oh, and why do I think winning the State Championship is the best championship? Because it's High School. Because High School ball (any sport) allows the athlete to compete and soak in the admiration of his/her peers, student body, friends, family, and town. No other arena offers up all of that. There is NOTHING like walking down the hall on a Monday morning in High School with your chest puffed out because you beat your arch-rival on Friday or Saturday. It is truly a one-of-a-kind experience and an experience that I think every kid should have the opportunity to participate in. (Sadly, we sometimes lose sight of that).
May the ground beneath your dive be soft. May your goalposts be 3 feet wide. May the other team shoot everything right at you.
All the Best--EV
